Real-time Market Basket Price Indexing for Print Services

Valuable Insight into the Cost of Commonly Purchased Items

Tempe, AZ, March 2, 2007 – Market basket price indexing reveals differences and identifies potential areas of opportunity for organizations. CAPS Research and a small group of Fortune 500 companies considered recommendations for market basket price indexing and the following market baskets have been released by CAPS Research: MRO Goods, Office Products, IT Goods & Services, and Print Services. The Print Services Market Basket of Goods is the first to be posted to the CAPS Research web site.

Survey participants provided the cost paid or cost they were quoted for a variety of typical small, medium and large print service jobs. Each line item in the survey had a unique description and each item had a corresponding quantity used to normalize prices. Survey instructions required no shipping or delivery costs to be included. Participants of the Market Basket Program receive a comparative look at their data, alongside the aggregate data of other participants.

In the print services market basket narrative report, the author, D. Steven Wade, provides a look at the mean and median costs for each of the twenty-four line items.
