FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
U.S. Postal Service Vice President Elected to CAPS Research Board of Trustees
(TEMPE, Arizona) April 28, 2008 – The CAPS Research Board of Trustees recently elected
the U.S. Postal Service's leading supply management professional, Susan Brownell,
to serve as Trustee. Brownell is the Vice President, Supply Management at the U.S.
Postal Service and is responsible for all Postal Service supply management activities.
The Postal Service delivers more than 212 billion pieces of mail a year to 148 million
addresses in the United States and its territories. With revenues of nearly $75
billion, the Postal Service would be ranked 26th on the 2008 Fortune 500 list if
it was a private sector company. CAPS Research is a globally recognized supply management
research organization affiliated with the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona
State University, and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). The Board of Trustees
is responsible for setting overall operating policies and procedures, and establishing
key research programs.
Brownell was named Vice President, Supply Management in March 2006. She manages
the Postal Services' supplier relationships with nearly $13 billion in expenditures
annually and the inventory and distribution system for repair parts and operational
supplies that provide more than 4 million orders annually. She previously served
as the manager for the Postal Service's mail equipment portfolio and was responsible
for supporting postal operations nationwide by obtaining state-of-the-art automated
mail processing, material handling and mail transport equipment, including services
and parts.
Under Brownell's leadership, the Postal Service is implementing best practices related
to strategic planning, policy modernization, process improvement, strategic sourcing,
supplier relationships and diversity, technology enhancements, and inventory management.
