Practix: ISO 14000 at Veris Industries
With a focus on supply management, this article describes the implementation and
operation of an ISO 14000 certified Environmental Management System (EMS) at Veris
Industries, a leading supplier of energy and environmental sensors. The ISO 14000
process created a safer internal environment and improved the company's effect on
the outside environment. As a result of recycling and re-use initiatives, Veris
Industries has increased its recovery rate (material not going to landfills) from
50 percent to 85 percent and cut the cost of garbage hauling service by two-thirds.

Benchmarking Opportunities:
- SnapShot Benchmarking - Information sharing is one the most effective
tools that companies can use to gain insight to topics or issues of general interest.
CAPS Research SnapShot is proving to be a simple and straight-forward communications
tool. Not only do you share in the results, you can develop your own questions for
us to release to our benchmarking community. The first SnapShot survey results show
that most participating companies use 30 days or 45 days as their typical, or default
payment terms (42% and 32% of the population, respectively). About 90% of the participants
reported they receive discounts for paying early; and 83% reported having an electronic
Procure-to-Pay solution that tracks order information from the date of purchase
order release to the date the corresponding invoice is paid. For more information,
