Supply Management professionals around the globe participate in different CAPS Research benchmarking activities that provide information on key metrics of importance to them and their respective organizations. The following are short summaries of three different types of benchmarking reports that were recently posted to the CAPS Research web site. The Market Basket for MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operating) Goods looks at recent prices paid for 50 different market basket items. Each of the market basket items was identified by nomenclature or part number. The report provides the average and median price for each 'actual' item in the market basket, as well as the average and median price for each 'equivalent' item purchased. This report is unique in that it shows the percent of market basket items purchased that are actual items or are functionally equivalent items.

Industry benchmarking is a continuous process that gives every company in a unique industry sector an opportunity to compare their supply management business practices to those of others within the same industry sector. In its eighth report of the industry since 1990, CAPS Research surveyed leading Aerospace & Defense organizations, with combined total sales of $72 billion and average sales of $4.8 billion.

On the 'sell' side of the equation, your investment recovery specialists are being challenged to maximize the disposal value of surplus assets while at the same time reducing your company's risk and liability. Are your investment recovery program benefits worth the investment? On average, each investment recovery professional returns $30.00 in total cost benefits for every operating expense dollar. Furthermore, each IR professional handled an average of 230 transactions, and each transaction was worth $22,519.
